What does the Dual Laser (eCO2™ Fractional Laser) treat?
The procedure is most commonly used to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth. It is also effective in treating acne scars, enlarged pores, sun-damaged skin, uneven pigmentation and skin texture, and much more! In addition, the Dual Laser (eCO2™ Fractional Laser) also helps achieve long-term effects of collagen remodeling.
What are the advantages of the eCO2™ Fractional Laser?
eCO2 Fractional Laser can be customized to each individuals needs. That means that each treatment is specific and unique to each patient and their desired results. Also, the Dual Laser (eCO2™ Fractional Laser) is quick and less painful than many other laser treatments on the market today. A typical treatment only takes about an hour from start to finish and most often treatments are performed using only a topical anesthetic. However, IV sedation can also be used, depending on the patient’s pain tolerance. Furthermore, patients experience less downtime than with traditional CO2 lasers without having to sacrifice superior results.
How can I prepare for the treatment?
Because eCO2™ Fractional Laser Treatments are performed in our very own AAAASF Accredited Surgical facility, pre-operative labs must be drawn approximately a week before. Also, patients need to avoid aspirin or aspirin like products for 10 days prior to the procedure and avoid glycolic or retinol products for 1 week prior to the procedure. On the day of the treatment, we will take your pre-laser photos and prepare you skin for the laser treatment. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and a topical anesthetic will be applied to the treated area. The eCO2™ practitioner will also create a pain management regimen to maximize your comfort during the procedure. Because of this fact, the patient will need to be prepared to have a driver take them home after the treatment.
What about the recovery period and side effects?
Immediately following treatment with the Dual Laser (eCO2™ Fractional Laser), you can expect to experience some moderate swelling and mild discomfort. However, this can usually be controlled with the use of ice packs and prescribed pain medications. Your skin will have a bright pink to red appearance that will fade more with each passing day. Within 24 hours following your treatment, you may experience some drainage or weeping of the skin. This is part of the natural healing process and generally subsides very quickly. Your skin then tends to become dry and it may peel, similar to what you may experience after a sunburn. During this phase of healing, it is very important that you not pick at your skin or scarring may result. Our staff will provide you with instructions on how to gently wash and care for your healing skin. Most patients are generally 90% improved by about 4 to 5 days post-operatively, however redness may persist for a little longer.
Who are the best candidates for the eCO2™ Fractional Laser?
In most cases, the best candidates for fractional laser resurfacing are men and women with mild to moderate facial wrinkles in localized areas, such as around the eyes and/or mouth. Also, good candidates for this treatment include patients with moderate to severe acne scars or un-even pigmentation. Patients with olive skin, brown skin, or black skin may be at an increased risk for pigmentation changes no matter what resurfacing method is recommended. Furthermore, an individual must be in good health, not have any active diseases or preexisting medical conditions and must have realistic expectations of the outcome of their surgery. Communication is crucial in reaching one's goals. Discuss your goals with us so that you may reach an understanding of what can realistically be achieved. You must be mentally and emotionally stable to undergo any cosmetic procedure. This is an operation that requires patience and stability in dealing with the healing period. Please consider this before committing to a procedure.
