IST (Intracellular Subcutaneous Antifat Therapy) is an injection of solution to chemically dissolve fat. This is an advancement from our previous experience with liposdissolve and lipomelt methods. The fat is gently and smoothly dissolved by infiltrating the area of concern with a solution mixture. The dissolved fat then are absorbed by our body and expelled.

The main active ingredients in the IST solution are Phosphatidylcholine and Deoxycholate. Phosphatidylcholine and Deoxycholate are both naturally found in the human body. Phosphatidylcholine is an important substance found in every cell in human body. When we are born, it is found in very high concentration in the brain tissue. It is also contained in eggs, soybeans, mustard, sunflower, and other foods. Therefore, they are contraindicated in people with allergies to these foods. Phosphatidylcholine has many applications in medicine. Sometimes they are given for high cholesterol, liver disease, chest pain, etc. Some believe Phosphatidylcholine supplements can improve learning, memory, skin elasticity, and liver function.

Sodium Deoxycholate is the sodium salt of Deoxycholic acid. This is one of secondary bile acids, which are metabolic byproducts of intestinal bacteria. In the human body, Deoxycholic acid is used to emulsify fat for absorption in the intestine. It is also sometimes used to prevent and dissolve gallstones.

In previous utilization of these substances to dissolve fat, the procedure was met with several problems. First, although in majority of patients, there were demonstrative benefits, the result was less than optimal and expected. The reason is that although these active ingredients dissolve fat, in a physiological setting they may not due to combination of pH and local environment. Our IST solution optimizes the environment to allow maximum effect of Phosphatidylcholine and Deoxycholate to dissolve fat. Virtually most of our patients are extremely satisfied with the outcome.

Secondly, the injections used to be very painful to patients. Our IST solution is virtually painless because it optimizes the solution in a physiological setting. Besides the initial anesthetic, the procedure is very well tolerated. Also, prior injections were multiple, where the injections were placed every inch apart. Our IST technique believes in diffuse infiltration. Only 2-3 entry points on the skin is used to deliver the solution evenly throughout the targeted area.

Finally, there was some recovery time associated with these injections. However, now after 2-3 hours, you will not notice you had any procedure performed.

For those patients who do not wish surgery or are not candidates for them, IST reliably and gently decreases the fat in the problem areas.
