Here at Wave Plastic Surgery, we do an enormous amount of Ultherapy treatments per day! We got together with the Ultherapy company themselves to gather some answers to common questions we get asked everyday in Los Angeles!
1. What Is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is the ONLY non-invasive procedure FDA cleared to lift skin on the neck, under the chin and on the eyebrow. It is now also FDA-cleared to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
2. How does Ultherapy work?
Ultherapy’s secret is ultrasound energy. This non-invasive facial rejuvenation treatment uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate your body’s own natural healing process. Without harming the surface of your skin, the deeper structural layers of your skin are restored, resulting in a lifting and tightening effect for your face and neck. Your Ultherapy treatment with Wave Plastic Surgery will take only about an hour to complete.
3. Who Is A Good Candidate?
- Anyone with skin that has increased laxity (looking and feeling less firm).
- Anyone with lowered eyebrow line(s), sagging skin on eyelid, jowls or neck.
- Anyone with lines or wrinkles on the chest (often referred as the first sign of “maturing” skin).
4. Does It Hurt?
Pain levels during the treatment can vary from patient to patient. However, Wave Plastic Surgery can use different types of anesthesia techniques ranging from EMLA Topical to anesthetic injections to help patients avoid discomfort.
5. When Will I See The Results And How Long Does It Last?
The result are visible right after the patient receives the treatment, but it takes 2-3 months for the final results to begin showing since it takes some time for the body to regenerate new, more elastic collagen. Results may continue to build for up to 12 months. This will last 1-3 years depending on each patient.
6. Are There Any Side Effects?
Patients might experience some redness around treated areas following the treatment, but will disappear in a matter of hours. Mild swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch is also common side effect, but these are also temporary in nature.
7. Who Is Qualified To Operate The Ulthera Machine?
Ulthera is a medical device for aesthetic medical procedures— therefore, it has to be operated by professional medical staff members such as nurses, physician assistants or doctors. Furthermore, ALL Ultherapy practitioners must receive extensive training to administer the treatment.
DO NOT receive Ultherapy from someone who does not meet these essential requirements!
8. How Do I Identify A Fake Ultherapy Machine?
For patient safety and real results, it is absolutely important to receive treatments from a AUTHENTIC Ulthera machine. An authentic Ulthera machine uses real-time visualization to determine if the appropriate areas are being treated. When the practitioner operates on your skin during the treatment, the ultra sound image on the screen will move as the Transducer moves. Counterfeit products have a static image or an ultrasound video loop.
Also, it has been seven years since Ultherapy was first introduced to the market. There are still many outdated / expired Ulthera machines out there. Some practices purchase old, second-hand machines or use refurbished transducers on their patients to lower the price. This is not only prohibited by Ulthera Company, but more importantly, it could result in patient safety concerns such as nerve damage.
It is critical not to be fooled by unusually low price. Make sure you choose the legitimate practitioner for your own safety.
9. How Do I Know The Practitioner Is Qualified To Administer Ultherapy And That They Aren't Using A Counterfeit Machine?
The easiest and best way to find the right place for your Ultherapy treatment is to use the Global Physician Locator on the official Ultherapy website. All the certified providers of the authentic Ultherapy Treatment are listed on it and you can be confident in knowing these practitioners receive technical training / continued support from Ulthera company.
